Interact-TV™, a leading innovator in home entertainment technology, today announced availability of a developer’s version of the Telly™ MC1000 Digital Entertainment Center. The new unit provides third-party software developers with tools to create new features, enhancements and customizations for the revolutionary new Telly, the first Linux-based fully customizable and expandable digital entertainment system. The Telly developer model was introduced during the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo, held at the Moscone Convention Center on Aug, 5-7.

The developer version is a complete system with reference design capabilities for playing, recording and archiving TV shows; ripping and burning CDs; playing DVDs, music and digital photos; and sharing media over a home network.

The Telly MC1000 incorporates open-source Linux OS and hardware solutions from hardware partner VIA Technologies, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions. VIA’s EPIA-M series motherboards provide powerful audio and video I/O for digital entertainment applications as well as offer low power and a small footprint, ideal for home entertainment applications

Interact-TV’s underlying software platform, EOS, is delivered with published APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and full online development manual and API documentation. It includes compiler and debugger environment to allow developers to begin undertaking software enhancements and their own applications easily and quickly.

“We’ve always planned to encourage third-party developers to expand and enhance this product,” said Ken Furhman, CEO of Interact-TV. “While we ship a feature-rich system today, a core strength of our solution is that it is open and will be enhanced and expanded over time.

“With this introduction, dealers and system integrators can create additional versions to meet specific market segments to broaden the appeal for wider markets. This release will also let enthusiasts and hobbyists experiment and customize Telly systems with their own desired set of capabilities.”

The Telly MC1000d developer version of the Digital Entertainment Center is selling for the same price --$899 (MSRP)--as the consumer model but will include all developer libraries and documentation. Units are now available directly from the manufacturer’s web site http://www.interact-tv.com/store/.
